She wrote and directed her own musicals CHRISTMAS IN THE ISLAND (1990s), SINGING IN THE ISLAND (1990s), and SINGING IN THE E.R. (2019). Other productions include OFF THE CUFF, LAST BRUNCH, CHRISTMAS CARDS, and NOT UP TO SNUFF with Jimmy Camicia (‘Hot Peaches’); YMCA; VOIDVILLE 1 (1979?), VANDALS OF 1981 (1981), VOIDVILLE 2 with Gordon Bressack; CHAMPAIGN (1985 with Jackie Curtis); LILY, A TRAGEDY FOR CABARET (1990); ANDY MILLIGAN CINDERELLA ’85; RED TIDE BLOOMING (2006 with Taylor Mac); and TWO BY TAVEL (2014). Two movies, Heaven Wants Out and Finishing Heaven, were made after her performance in HEAVEN GRAND IN AMBER ORBIT documenting the 70s scene on the Bowery. They were finally shown in 2008. Other movies include Beautiful Darling (about Candy Darling) Generation UM (with Keanu Reeves), Crush Proof, **** (Warhol’s Four Stars), About Me, and a film about the ‘Cockettes.’
Ruby Lynn Reyner, from Long Island, was a show-room model for coats in Manhattan. Her friend and co-model, Sarah Screech, invited Reyner to join her rehearsal for John Vaccaro’s ‘Play House of the Ridiculous’ at the Bowerie Lane Theatre. She never left!! Vaccaro in fact gave her the name, Ruby. Reyner joined Jackie Curtis and many others in Vaccaro’s productions (many written by the brilliant Ron Tavel) which challenged conventional theatrical subject matter and etiquette while being bold, musical and outrageously beautiful. She became a leading lady in the company and a star of the Punk ‘Glam’ scene performing with her group ‘Ruby and the Rednecks.’ She won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical in 1974 for LA BOHEMIA, an Emmy Nomination for the documentary, Finishing Heaven (2010), and an Acker Award (2018).
