Rosalba Rolón, born in Puerto Rico, is the co-Founder and Artistic Director of Pregones Theater, which merged with The Puerto Rican Traveling Theater in 2013. She is a 2008 United States Artists Fellow and a 2006 Ford Foundation New Works Visionary Fellow. She is a Board Member of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures and of United States Artists. She also serves on the Citizens Advisory Committee for NYC’s Cultural Plan, led by the Department of Cultural Affairs. She has served on numerous theater and music theater panels and is on the Faculty of the NALAC and Arts Presenters Leadership Institutes.

Her early education in Puerto Rico, where she became an actress, was rich in music, literature and theater. As an actress in New York in film, television and theater, she was transformed by her connection to the Latino community born and living in New York. Rolón’s City of New York University studies in psychology and social services laid a foundation for her creation of Pregones Theater in the Bronx in 1979.  Pregones has a Latinx musical theater repertory creating works from non-theatrical sources. It is also a multi cultural, bilingual institution working within the community on social issues and forming collaborations with like-minded theaters [June Bug, New Orleans; Roadside Theater, Kentucky; Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, New York] producing works that have travelled all over the world. Rolón’s admiration of Miriam Colón, a legendary movie and theater actress and Founder of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, led to a deep friendship and professional collaboration. In 2013 Colón passed this historical theater on to Rolón, and the two companies merged. Miriam Colón passed away in March 2017.
