Marianne de Pury is a composer, translator, director and founder of the Santa Fe Ensemble. After moving from Switzerland to New York as a young professional, de Pury became the ‘Composer in Residence’ at The Open Theater at La MaMa  E.T.C., composing the first rock musical, VIET ROCK (1966)She was then promoted to Administrative Director of The Open Theater, a position she held until 1972. During this time, she was the translator for Jean Genet while he spoke in support of the Black Panthers at various universities in the United States. De Pury was an integral part to many Off-Broadway productions, including: AMERICA HURRAH (1966), THE SERPENT: A CEREMONY (1970), TERMINAL (1970), and ENDGAME (1970). 

Upon leaving The Open Theater, de Pury moved to Santa Fe with her husband. Here, she began her directing career, in addition to acting as Artistic Director for the Theater Arts Corporation and founding the Santa Fe Ensemble. Currently de Pury resides in Bern, Switzerland, where she continues to direct plays throughout Europe.
