Latus was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He inherited a love of theatre from his parents which he shared with his siblings from an early age, performing plays with them in his backyard. He wanted to pursue a career in theater early on, yet believed it unattainable. Therefore, he pursued it as a hobby. Attending a technical high school, he focused on architecture and was involved in the school drama club. He studied architecture at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. While there, he took a performing arts class for a requirement. Realizing his true passion, he changed his major, directed, then discovered Stage Management. Graduating, he held a directing internship at Arena Stage in Washington D.C., then moved to New York City.  In New York he became the production assistant for Manhattan Theatre Club. His Broadway credits include: The Capeman (1998), Bells Are Ringing (2001), Elaine Stritch At Liberty (2002), Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
