Eric Krebs is a producer with a theatrical career that spans more than 40 years. He founded the Off-Broadway Douglas Fairbanks Theater, the John Houseman Theater, and the Playroom Theater. His Off-Broadway producing credits include: KING OF SCHNORRERS (1979), THE RISE OF DAVID LEVINSKY (1987), CAPITOL STEPS (1997), THIS IS OUR YOUTH (1999), THE BIG BANG (2000), TOXIC AUDIO (2003), GOLF: THE MUSICAL (2003), BASH (2004), THE CASTLE (2008), LAUGHING LIBERALLY: THIS AIN’T NO TEA PARTY (2011), THE BULLPEN (2014), GREED: A MUSICAL FOR OUR TIMES (2014), and A CLASS ACT (2016). In 1999, Krebs was presented with the Robert Whitehead Award for Excellence in Producing. TOXIC AUDIO was awarded the 2004 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience. In 2007, he performed in an Off-Off-Broadway play called CONSIDERING LEAR, a one person 90-minute adaption of “King Lear.” Krebs conceived of and produced THAT PHYSICS SHOW (2015), which won the 2016 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience. Recently, he created and performed a production of his father’s letters from Ellis Island and the War in the Pacific in 1945, entitled MY FATHER’S VOICE, 1938-1945.
Krebs also founded and was the producing director for the George Street Playhouse, located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He has been the chairman of AMAS Musical Theatre since 1998 and is the founder and owner of the School Theatre Ticket Program that works with schools and universities to promote live theatre. He is a theatre professor emeritus at Rutgers University in New Jersey and currently teaches theatre classes at Baruch College in New York City. Krebs’ Broadway credits include: Electra (1998), It Ain’t Nothin’ but the Blues (1999), The Dinner Party (2000), and Bill Maher: Victory Begins at the Home (2003).
