Eduardo Machado a playwright, born in Cuba, is also an actor, and a director. His early association with Ensemble Studio Theatre in Los Angeles and New York led them to produce his plays  ROSARIO AND THE GYPSIES (NY 1982), THEY STILL MAMBO IN THE STREETS OF RIO (LA 1982), THE MODERN LADIES OF GUANABACO (NY 1983), BROKEN EGGS (NY 1984). The last two were also produced  in Spanish at Repertorio  Espanol. Theater for the New City produced FABIOLA (1986), WHY TO REFUSE (1987), DON JUAN (1988), RELATED RETREATS (1990), CUBA AND THE NIGHT (1998), CROCODILE EYES (2004), PAULA (2006), HAVANA JOURNAL (2010),  MARIQUITAS (2013), and  WORSHIP (2014). The American Place Theatre, The Cherry Lane Theatre, Manhattan Theater Club, INTAR, Playwrights Collective, The Public Theater and Lincoln Center are other New York companies who have produced productions or workshops of his works. His plays have received many awards and fellowships. He was a Playwright in Residence at Theater for the New City and the Mark Taper Forum. He wrote and directed the film Exiles In New York and co-wrote with Michael Domitrovich, ‘Tastes Like Cuba: An Exile’s Hunger For Home.’

Machado and his brother were part of ‘Operation Peter Pan,’ bringing 15,000 Cuban children to Miami. After the Revolution, their parents joined them and they moved to Los Angeles. There Machado flourished becoming an actor at 17, a Screen Actors Guild member, and a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre West Coast. He was also an actor at the Padua Hills Writers Workshop, where he met Sam Shepard and Maria Irene Fornes. With Fornes mentoring he became a playwright. Told he would have greater opportunities in New York as a Cuban actor and playwright, he moved there in 1981. His first play produced at Ensemble Studio Theatre, New York, was ROSARIO AND THE GYPSIES (A Musical in 1982). He taught playwriting at Sarah Lawrence College, Columbia University (where he ran the playwrights program), The Public Theater, Dream Yard Drama Project for Teenagers in Harlem,   and New York University.
