Marylouise Burke is an Off-Broadway actress who has also appeared on Broadway, and in film and television. She was a member of The Pearl Theater Company, performed with Mabou Mines, Project for American Theatre, and Kevin O’Conner’s Workshop Theater Company doing early Sam Shepard and Leonard Melfi plays. She has performed Off-Broadway at Theatre Genesis, Cucarache, Manhattan Theatre Club, The Electric Circus, La Mama E.T.C., Performing Garage, Double Image Theater, New Arts Theatre Company (INTAR), Soho Rep, New York Theatre Ensemble, New Georges, Primary Stages, Playwrights Horizons, Second Stage, The Belt, Rattlestick, and Signature Theatre to name a few iconic Off-Broadway venues. Four of her many films: Angie (1994), Sideways (2004), A Prairie Home Companion (2005), Wild Canaries (2014). Her role in FUDDY MEERS (1999) won a Drama Desk Award for Featured Actress in a Play, and for KIMBERLY AKIMBO (2003) she received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Play nomination. Both plays were by playwright David Lindsay-Abaire done at Manhattan Theatre Club. In 2014 Burke received an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence of Performance.
Marylouise Burke grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a steel town. She wrote health certificates for cows in the Department of Agriculture while doing props in the summer for the Harrisburg Community Theatre. She gravitated to Philadelphia performing with an improve group. A friend cast her in House of Blue Leaves giving her the courage to come to New York to seek in work in theater. One of her first performances, REVOLT OF THE LEPER COLONY for New York Theater Ensemble started her on her Off and Off-Off-Broadway career.
