"I stayed there for 33 years… in charge of the Junior School [Neighborhood Playhouse] … I was working concurrently with Robert Whitehead, it was a six day week for me. I enjoyed being with the kids on Saturday. It gave you a perspective after being with egotistical adults all week."

Doris Blum (Gorelick) began her theater career by studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse with Sanford Meisner. There she met Paul Morrison, Broadway set, costume and lighting designer becoming his assistant. She stage managed shows for Terese Hayden at the Theatre de Lys (before Lucille Lortel owned it) MAYA, SCARECROW, SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL in 1953 and produced THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM (1956) at The Cherry Lane. Morrison  introduced her to Robert Whitehead beginning her career with him as a producer until his death in 2002. Other Off-Broadway credits include: ARABIAN NIGHTS (1949), CAT AND THE CANARY (1964), MOUSETRAP(1965).

Blum was born in San Francisco, California, and graduated from what is now known as University of the Pacific. In the 1968, she was hired by Broadway producer Robert Whitehead as an office assistant working her way up to his Assistant and Production Associate.  Her Broadway credits include: Four Saints in Three Acts (1953),  Golden Boy (1952), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1968), Sheep on the Runway (1970), 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (1976), No Man’s Land (1975),West Side Waltz (1981), Medea (1982), Death of a Salesmen (1984), A Few Good Men (1989), and  Master Class (1995). Today, Blum is on the board of the Neighborhood Playhouse and was the head of their Junior School for Children and Teenagers for 33 years.
