André Bishop is the Producing Artistic Director of Lincoln Center Theater. He began his career working for the American Place Theatre and the New York Shakespeare Festival, later volunteering at Playwrights Horizons. In 1975, he became the Literary Manager of Playwrights Horizons, and in 1981, he took over as Artistic Director when founder Robert Moss stepped down. Notable works produced during his tenure at Playwrights Horizons include IN TROUSERS (1979), MARCH OF THE FALSETTOS (1981), SISTER MARY IGNATIUS EXPLAINS IT ALL FOR YOU/THE ACTOR’S NIGHTMARE (1981), THE DINING ROOM (1982) SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE(1983), DRIVING MISS DAISY (1986), THE HEIDI CHRONICLES (1988), ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (1990), FALSETTOLAND (1990), ASSASSINS (1990), and THE SUBSTANCE OF FIRE (1991). In 1992, he left Playwrights Horizons to become the Artistic Director of Lincoln Center Theater, alongside Bernard Gersten as Executive Director. He assumed the role of Producing Artistic Director when Gersten retired in 2013. Notable works produced Off-Broadway at Lincoln Center Theater include: THE SISTERS ROSENSWEIG (1992), CONTACT (1999), A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE (2002), THE CLEAN HOUSE (2006), DYING CITY (2007), OTHER DESERT CITIES (2011), VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE (2013),  OSLO (2016) and PIPELINE (2017).

André Bishop was born in Manhattan and graduated from Harvard University with a degree in English. He has taught at New York University and Hunter College, served on the board of overseers for Harvard University’s Loeb Drama Center, and has been a member of the National Endowment for the Arts theatre panel. For his work at Playwrights Horizons, he received the Margo Jones Award in 1982 and the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Body of Work in 1989. Under his leadership, productions at Playwrights Horizons and Lincoln Center Theater have been nominated for and won numerous Tony and Drama Desk Awards.  He was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame in 2012.
