Douglas Aibel is a noted New York based theatre producer and film casting director.  He was born in Manhasset, NY, attended the Wheatley School and graduated from Vassar College.  He began his work in the NY theatre community as a director and dramaturg, and in 1985 became the first Artistic Director for theatre at the Vineyard Theatre, after starting as the young company’s associate director shortly after its founding in 1982..  He created the Vineyard's new play program, and its innovative lab program, and has continued work with the company as an Artistic Director to this day.  Among his many credits as Artistic Director of the Vineyard are two works which won the Pulitzer Prize, Paula Vogel's HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE and Edward Albee's THREE TALL WOMEN, both of which went on to successful Off Broadway transfers, and in recent years were revived on Broadway.  Other major Vineyard producing credits include the Tony award winning musical AVENUE Q, Kander, Ebb and Thompson's THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, Nicky Silver's PTERODACTYLS and THE LYONS, Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell's [title of show], Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins GLORIA, Tarell Alvin McCraney's WIG OUT!, Polly Pen's GOBLIN MARKET,  Paula Vogel's INDECENT,  Tina Satter's IS THIS A ROOM and Lucas Hnath's DANA H. and numerous others.  11 Vineyard productions have transferred to Broadway runs, and throughout his tenure, Aibel accepted special OBIE, DRAMA DESK and LUCILLE LORTEL awards for the Vineyard for support of artists and excellence in the theatre.  Among his early directing credits at the Vineyard are two collaborations with composer-lyricist Bob Merrill, WE'RE HOME and HANNAH...1939.  

Aibel has also established himself as a leading Casting Director in the film and television world.  He has cast over 100 feature films, working with such directors as Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach, M. Night Shyamalan, Marielle Heller, Kenneth Lonergan, James Gray, Tina Satter, Antonio Campos, Ramin Bahrani, Megan Park, and others.  Notable film casting credits include MARRIAGE STORY, THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL, MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, UNBREAKABLE, DEAD MAN WALKING, ARMAGEDDON TIME, SPLIT, FRANCES HA, LITTLE ODESSA, LIMITLESS MOONRISE KINGDOM and  THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME.  Television and streaming credits include SUCCESSION, MOZART IN THE JUNGLE, SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE, SERVANT, OUTER RANGE, and THE STAIRCASE.  For his work in Casting, he has received five Artios Awards, the Independent Spirit Robert Altman Award, as well as BAFTA and EMMY nominations for MARRIAGE STORY and SUCCESSION.  He has been profiled in the NY Times, Hollywood Reporter, Vanity Fair and others.  He is an artist member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
