Casey Childs
Executive Producer
Casey Childs founded Primary Stages in 1984 and has directed many productions for the company. He served as the Artistic Program Director for the New Dramatists from 1982 until 1985 and has directed other new plays Off-Broadway, including Lanie Robertson's WOMAN BEFORE A GLASS with Mercedes Ruehl at the Promenade Theatre (OBIE Awards for performance and design). Casey is the recipient of the Carnegie Mellon Commitment to New Playwrights' Award, as well as of two Emmy Awards and many Emmy nominations for his extensive work in television. He is a past vice president of the Directors Guild of America and a past trustee of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He has taught at many universities including Columbia's School of Film, New York University, and Duke University and is currently an associate fellow at Calhoun College at Yale University. Casey has a BFA in acting and an MFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University.

 

Sally Plass Makman
Director, Primary Stages Oral History Project
Sally Plass Makman has been associated with Primary Stages for 30 years. She was a stage manager for many shows that Casey Childs directed as well as a set and props designer for the company. She graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. and a Master of Arts Degree in theater. In the 70's she joined many arts movements and co-published Slug: The Magazine of Excess Images. She also worked for Alfred van der Marck, publishing books on art and myth, including the works of Joseph Campbell, whom she met while working at Theater of the Open Eye with his wife, Jean Erdman.  As a stage manager, she has also worked for Ellen Stewart (LaMaMa), Lynne Meadow (Manhattan Theatre Club), Curt Dempster (Ensemble Studio Theatre), and Norman Thomas Marshall (No Smoking Playhouse). She also stage managed the original productions of THE FOREIGNER, WOMAN BEFORE A GLASS (OBIE), and POPPIE NONGENA (OBIE). Sally recently completed 23 years as Production Stage Manager for the Juilliard School of Drama, 3^rd Year Division. As "The Propper Ms. Plass," she and her husband, Michael Makman (aka Professor Putter), ran the A. Plass Prop House under the umbrella of ART/New York, doing over 40 shows a year from 2000-2006. Their 25-year prop business covered most Off-Broadway theaters including AMAS Rep, Gene Feistâ's Roundabout, The Pearl, Signature Theater, The Atlantic, and Ma-Yi, to name a few.

 

David Goldsmith
Editor and Technical Coordinator
David Goldsmith joined the staff of Primary Stages in 2003 and has been the company's IT Manager since 2006. He has worked with computers in one way or another since 1990 and is honored to be a part of the Oral History Project. David has a BA in Broadcast and Film from Boston University.
